From preventive screenings and vasectomies to addressing specific health issues such as low testosterone and prostate health, our experienced team provides personalised health care with discretion, compassion and respect.
Vasectomy Service
Alistair Dunn has performed over 2,500 vasectomies since joining BRMC in 1997. He uses the modified ‘no-scalpel’ technique, which is less traumatic than standard vasectomy, and reduces the risk of bruising .

Surgery is done on Fridays, and those with manual jobs are advised to take light duties or some time off the following week. Full instructions regarding post-op care and semen analysis are provided. All patients are given Dr Dunn’s home telephone number to provide free 24hr 7 days / week cover post-operatively should any complications arise.
COSTS :
Pre-op consult – $ 125.00
Surgery – $ 450.00
Please note WINZ will fund the full cost of pre-op consult and surgery for community services card holders who meet their criteria. Those with surgical cover medical insurance may also be covered for vasectomy.

Pregnancy Care – Antenatal and Postnatal Care
Caring for yourself in pregnancy is one of the most important things you can do to give your child the best start in life. At Bush Road Medical Centre our female and male GPs provide early pregnancy care for you and your family.
Free pregnancy testing is available from our nurses and medical care assistants. When you discover you are pregnant it is important to have your blood screened and tested for:
- Your blood group
- Your haemoglobin – to make sure you are not anaemic and that your baby will have enough oxygen
- Your immunity to Rubella –as this can cause deafness and heart defects if you have no immunity and get this infection in pregnancy
- The presence of any infections like syphilis and HIV
This screening should occur as early as possible in your pregnancy – preferably within the first 12 weeks.
Folic acid is also an important medicine before conception and in early pregnancy. Our doctors can prescribe this for you.
Once baby is born Bush Road Medical Centre doctors will perform your baby’s 6 weeks old Well Child Check when you come in for their 6-week vaccination.
For women with HIV, early testing in pregnancy can ensure that appropriate treatment reduces the risk of baby contracting HIV from 30% down to less than 1%. HIV testing can result in occasional false positive tests – approximately one in one thousand women may have a false positive result and should have the test repeated.
