Why have a vasectomy?
A vasectomy is one of the most effective forms of permanent contraception. It is a minor surgical procedure that involves separating the cut end of the tubes that move sperm from the testicles to the penis. It is a permanent method of birth control designed for men who have decided they don’t wish to have any, or more, children. Choosing to have a vasectomy offers peace of mind. No more worrying about unplanned pregnancies or relying on temporary methods like condoms.
The Vasectomy is a stress-free solution
Many men opt for a vasectomy because it’s a straightforward solution that lets them take control of family planning, allowing their partner to avoid hormonal birth control options or more invasive procedures. Plus, it doesn’t affect your hormones or sex drive at all. Everything stays the same, except your ability to father a child. It’s a one-time procedure that requires little downtime. Once it’s done, and sperm test are clear you can enjoy intimacy without thinking about contraception.
How much does a vasectomy in Whangarei cost?
Getting your vasectomy done at Bush Road Medical Centre is more affordable than you may think. The pre-op consult is charged at $140 and the procedure itself costs $450. WINZ will fund the full cost of pre-op consult and surgery if you have a Community Services Card and meet their criteria. If you have surgical cover with your medical insurance, you may also be covered for vasectomy.
Is a vasectomy painful?
For most men, the discomfort of a scalpel-free vasectomy is minimal. The procedure is done with a local anaesthetic, so you’ll feel little to no pain during the process. You may experience some soreness or swelling for a few days afterward, but that is manageable with over-the-counter pain relief and rest. Compared to other surgical procedures, recovery is quick. Within a week or so after your vasectomy, you’ll be back to normal activities. No long-term pain, just long-term peace of mind.
When can I get my vasectomy done?
Surgery is done on Fridays, so you’ll have the weekend to take it easy and recover. If you have a manual job, the advice is to switch to light duties for a few days after the procedure or take some time off the following week. We also recommend avoiding heavy lifting, swimming, or intense exercise for 7 to 10 days. For peace of mind, you will get Dr Dunn’s personal phone number after the procedure. He will be available day and night if you experience complications.
Dr Loo is currently in training and will be assisting Dr Dunn.
